President’s Welcome

Welcome to the Rotary Club Plovdiv International!

Our ambition is to create an international Rotary club in which the official language is English. This way, we want to be in rhythm with the globalisation of the region, and the fact that foreign investment is increasing, along with the new businesses, businessmen and students permanently residing here. We wish to welcome them to join our club, to offer them a friendly atmosphere and to facilitate their integration into our community.

Through our initiatives we also strive to be creative and to engage the help of people from different perspectives, who have fresh ideas and offer new solutions to the contemporary problems of our society. We hope to build a rich heritage of serving our community in Plovdiv and internationally with various development projects.

The biggest gift we are given
Is the power to touch a life,

To change, to make a difference
In the circle of life.

If we can reach out
With our hand, heart, and soul,

The magic will start to happen
As the wheel begins to roll.

Let’s turn the wheel together
So all humanity thrives,

We have the power and the magic
To Serve to Change Lives.

RI President Holger Knaack’s theme for 2020-21, Rotary Opens Opportunities, asks Rotarians to create opportunities that strengthen their leadership, help put service ideas into action, and improve the lives of those in need. We combine this with Plovdiv’s motto, Ancient and Eternal, thus keeping a long-lasting impact at the forefront of our local development efforts.

RI President Shekhar Mehta’s theme for 2021-2022, Each One, Bring One and Serve to Change Lives, is at the core of our Club as we aspire to engage new members, new friends into our Club, and reach out to serve our communities.

We believe there is value in meeting in person and helping spark new friendships; we foster connections with other local development groups or service organisations.

Yours in Rotary,
Karel Van Isacker
President 2021-2022

More informally, Plovdiv is often referred to as “The City of the Seven Hills”, because historically it was developed on seven syenite hills (of which 6 still remain).
