| Short professional background: | Maj (Ret’d) Cormac Doyle ARRC is a Mental Health Specialist who has completed 25 years’ military service serving in both the Royal Air Force and latterly the British Army. He has served on numerous deployments from The Former Yugoslavia to Iraq and Afghanistan. As a qualified Flight Nurse, he has accrued significant flying hours involved in the repatriation of military causalities from all operational theatres since 1993. He has worked at command level and was appointed Staff Officer 2 (Mental Health) to HQ Air command reporting directly to Director General Medical Services Royal Air Force. On transfer to the Army, he was appointed Deputy Head of Cadre Mental Health (Army). His extensive experience both as a clinician and a senior officer has equipped him with the skills in developing a service unique for veteran’s mental health. Cormac’s particular area of interest is the assessment, management and treatment of stress reaction and PTSD, its impact on individuals, family and work relationships. Cormac’s work within the military was recognised by the State when he was awarded the Associate Royal Red Cross (ARRC) for his operational deployment to Iraq (2006); he was subsequently awarded the Chief of the Air Staff personal commendation (New Year’s Honour List 2008) for services to military mental health. He was also awarded the AOC AEW commendation for his involvement in the aftermath of a suicide bombing in Kandahar, Afghanistan 2008. He currently works with veterans and families who have not been able to source clinical treatment. In Aug 2017 he created The Bridge Charity providing free psychological treatment to veterans. He self-funds the charity and all work is done pro bono. He is currently working with Julia Stovely, TV producer making a programme about PTSD and its impact on the individual and the family. The 90-minute programme is due for release Nov 2023. Cormac divides his time between UK and Bulgaria. In 2022 he opened a psychological trauma mental health retreat, The Serenity Project, in Bulgaria where he delivers one to one intervention using EMDR/ UltraBLS. There is only ever one client at the retreat at any one time and the duration of stay is between seven -10 days. During COVID he developed a process of rapid intervention for trauma which proved to be successful. He teaches clients how to use EMDR/UltraBLS on themselves. In the UK he delivers EMDR/UltraBLS training for both clinicians and human performance coaches. He trained in EMDR 2008 and has over 25000 hours of recorded clinical intervention using EMDR. His approach in dealing with clients has been acknowledge both in books “Aftershock” by Mathew Green and he has recently been interviewed by the https://thomashuebl.com on the subject of managing trauma: the main theme is that everyone with trauma should know that recovery is possible and no person should have to give a narrative. This is due for release Sept 2023. Cormac is international membership secretary to the Rotary Fellowship for Military Veterans Post Nominals: ARRC BSc Dip HE MH: Dip HE SM: Dip HE EMDR: RMN: CPN |
