Rotary is a global organization that brings together leaders from all walks of life who work together to promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water and sanitation, support education, and assist in community development. Rotary members are committed to service above self and strive to make a positive impact on the world.
The organization was founded in 1905 in Chicago by businessman Paul Harris, who believed that personal connections and community involvement could bring about positive change. Today, Rotary has over 1,2 million members in over 35000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.
Rotary is also known for its commitment to eradicating polio, a goal the organization has been working towards since 1985. Through partnerships with organizations like the World Health Organization and UNICEF, Rotary has helped to reduce the number of polio cases worldwide by over 99%.
Service Above Self – Four-Way Test
In 1932, Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor created The Four-Way Test. The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and non-sectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships, and has been translated into more than 100 languages.

- Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Rotary’s Causes
Rotary is dedicated to six areas of focus to build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever:
- Promoting peace
- Fighting disease
- Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
- Saving mothers and children
- Supporting education
- Growing local economies
The organization supports these areas through a variety of programs and initiatives, including scholarships, vocational training, and community service projects.
