Each year on 11 November, Armistice Day marks the moment the guns fell silent in 1918, bringing an end to the First World War. It is a day of remembrance and reflection, honouring all those who gave their lives in service to their countries and for the cause of peace. Across the world, people pause at 11 a.m. for two minutes of silence, a simple yet powerful act of gratitude and respect.
For Rotary members, Armistice Day holds a special significance. Rotary was founded on the principles of service, fellowship, and peace – values that deeply align with the spirit of remembrance. Many Rotary clubs take part in local ceremonies, lay wreaths at memorials, or support veterans and their families through charitable initiatives.
This day serves not only to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives but also to renew Rotary’s commitment to promoting understanding, goodwill, and peace among nations. By working together on humanitarian projects, peace fellowships, and youth exchanges, Rotarians continue to build the kind of world for which so many gave their lives.
On 11 November, as we remember the past, Rotary looks forward with purpose – continuing its mission to create hope, foster peace, and serve humanity.
