Dear Friends,
On 12.06.2023 in the town of Berkovitsa as a result of heavy rains that occurred for about an hour between 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. in an amount of more than 70 l./sq.m., for the second time in the last week, a significant part of the town of Berkovitsa was flooded by the waters that came along the slopes above this town, carrying stones, mud and drifted trees. When the tidal wave passed, severe damage was caused to the infrastructure of the city, the local hospital, schools and kindergartens (washed away streets, sidewalks, water pipes, sewers), as well as to properties and belongings of city residents (houses, cars, household goods, foodstuffs). Damage removal began immediately after the water receded, and throughout the night, in addition to the services of the Municipality of Berkovica and the local Fire Department, both the people in distress and many volunteers, including those with their own equipment, took part.
The damage is significant for the local hospital “MBAL Berkovitsa” EOOD and Kindergarten “Malina”, which were directly affected by the incoming waters. In order for the two sites to continue their work and to be able to receive patients and children, it is urgently necessary to provide washing machines, ironing machines, dryers and kitchen appliances.
At its regular meeting on 14.06.2023. RK Berkovitsa unanimously decided to get involved in the restoration, repair of the damage and provision of the basic needs of the victims of white goods. They used their experience in repairing flood damage in 2014 in the town of Berkovitsa and the club’s participation in all initiatives of other clubs from the district.
RK Berkovitsa opened a fundraising donation account BG78UBBS80021030135750 with the purpose of a donation for the victims of the disaster in Berkovitsa.
We hereby invite you to participate in the campaign of RK Berkovitsa to raise funds to repair the damage caused by the disaster. For those wishing to directly present appliances and white goods, contact person Arsen Atanasov – President of RK Berkovitsa, phone: 0898 65 50 64.
RCPI has decided to donate this morning 1000 BGN to support these efforts.
With kind regards,
Karel Van Isacker
